Is it the perfect time for Super Eagles striker Iheanacho to leave Leicester City?
Published: January 22, 2023Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho has not been able to play an awful lot of games for his Premier League club, Leicester City this season.
Iheanacho has played 14 Premier League games for the Foxes this season, coming off the bench in 13 of them, and has played four Carabao Cup matches and one FA Cup game so far in the 2022/2023 campaign.
His overall playing time in the Premier League this term is just 289 minutes.
Iheanacho has two goals in all competitions so far - the goal on September 4 in the Premier League against Brighton which his team lost 5-2 and recently (January 7) in the FA Cup third round as Leicester defeated Gillingham FC 1-0.
On Saturday, January 21, Leicester played out a battling 2-2 draw against Brighton at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League.
In the 86th minute of the game, manager Brendan Rodgers took out veteran striker, Jamie Vardy for Zambian international, Patson Daka.
Vardy, in his 30s, was the choice to start over the younger strikers while Daka was favoured over Iheanacho when a change was required - four minutes to full time.
It beggars the question if it's not the right time for 'senior man Kelz' to find a new club especially in this transfer window.
There are clubs that would gladly accept the chance of having Iheanacho in their teams.
Two of such clubs who may be keen on having the Nigerian on their books - even if it's on a loan deal until the end of the season - are Nottingham Forest and Everton.
Forest have lost Iheanacho's international teammate, Taiwo Awoniyi to injury which could see him miss a substantial part of the second half of the season.
Everton could still need some help from a Premier League and FA Cup proven striker like Iheanacho despite the anticipated arrival of Dutch forward of Nigerian heritage, Arnaut Danjuma from Villarreal, on loan until the end of the season without the option of a permanent deal.
Iheanacho's agent may have to consider pushing for his client to move to any of the clubs even if it's on a temporary basis.
