'It is found money' - Legendary Dutch coach jubilates over Madueke's transfer to Chelsea
Published: January 26, 2023Former PSV Eindhoven manager Aad de Mos is jubilating over the recent transfer of Chukwunonso Madueke to Chelsea.
The England U21 international of Nigerian descent has returned to London, five years after his departure from Tottenham Hotspur, signing a seven-and-a-half-year contract with Chelsea, who hold the option to extend his stay by a further twelve months.
PSV have weakened their chances of mounting a challenge for the Eredivisie title with the sale of Cody Gakpo to Liverpool and Madueke to Chelsea for a combined fee in the region of 80 million euros.
One of the most respected Dutch coaches in history, Aad de Mos is apparently not a fan of Madueke as he reckons that PSV made the right decision to sell the Anglo-Nigerian youngster.
The 75-year-old underlined that Madueke had a poor injury record during his time at the Philips Stadion.
"It is found money. If I see five cents on the floor, I'll grab it. If PSV hadn't done it, I would have done it. With a bow on it," De Mos said to Eindhovens Dagblad, via PSV inside.
“If you play so little and are injured so often, that is of course a lot of money. That is normally paid for players with a different status, such as Cody Gakpo.
"That 38 million was found, it was on the street and you have to pick it up. I still do that for luck, so you have to be humble now and then. This is an opportunity, you have to grab it."
Madueke scored 20 goals and provided fourteen assists in 80 appearances for PSV.
