Louis Flower misses out on Chelsea Goal of the Month award to Australian
Published: February 02, 2023
Anglo-Nigerian striker Louis Flower has missed out on Chelsea's Goal of the Month award for January 2023, with prolific Australia international Sam Kerr taking the honour for her volleyed effort against Liverpool Women.
The 18-year-old had been nominated for his stunning goal in Chelsea's 7-1 annihilation of Norwich City in an U18 Premier League fixture on January 14.
Just past the hour mark against the Canaries, Flower netted his second of the game when he produced an acrobatic bicycle kick to smash in the rebound after Frankie Runham’s initial effort had been saved.
There were seven goals in total competing for the monthly accolade and Flower's goal did not finish in the top three.
Kai Havertz was in second place for his header versus Crystal Palace and Kerr was third for her goal in a Women's Super League match against Arsenal.
Flower has totaled five goals in all competitions so far this season, with four of them coming in the U18 Premier League and the other in the UEFA Youth League.
Born in Cambridge, he joined Chelsea at U13 level from local club Cambridge United.
