Four observations from Iheanacho's performance in Leicester City's loss to Man Utd
Published: February 19, 2023
Manchester United Sunday evening underlined the fact that they are still in the title race with am emphatic display against Leicester City that paraded Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho as the focal point in attack.
Marcus Rashford was the star of the game that ended 3-0.
Jadon Sancho also scored a goal at the Old Trafford with Iheanacho's name featuring in the story of this United win.
All Nigeria Soccer presents the four takeaways from the performance of the Nigeria international at Old Trafford.
1. Great combinations with Barnes
In the first half, Iheanacho produced a better performance and was particularly more effective when he linked up with England international, Harvey Barnes.
In the 8th minute of the game, Iheanacho combined beautifully with Harvey Barnes but the latter's shot was batted away by the impressive David de Gea in the United goal.
2. Iheanacho's scoring chances denied by Dea Gea, Lindelof
Two minutes after his give-and-go with Barnes, Iheanacho's shot was deflected for a corner kick by Victor Lindelof.
Deep into the first half, United goalkeeper, De Gea who was remarkably dropped from Spain's 2022 World Cup campaign denied Iheanacho again from close range when his header was pushed out.
3. Losing the ball
Five minutes into the second half, Iheanacho lost possession of the ball at the center circle which almost culminated in a second United goal by Rashford, whose shot at the edge of the box after sprinting unhindered, was instinctively deflected by the knee of Danny Ward in goal for the Foxes.
Iheanacho was dispossessed of the ball by Lisandro Martinez who released the attacking United players. Substitute, Jadon Sancho then side footed to score the third of the game.
It was a much netter first half than the second for the Nigerian who was ominously relieved when substituted as he non hesitantly ran off immediately his jersey number went up.
4. Iheanacho's right foot
Kelechi Iheanacho would always manipulate the ball to his left, dominant foot before putting a shot away.
Perhaps the Nigerian would need to spend more time during the training sessions in a bid to add some more power to his weaker right foot as his intentions are too predictable when he has the ball.
