Three-time World Cupper urges Arsenal's Super Eagles-eligible striker to snub England for USA

Retired United States international Eric Wynalda has urged Arsenal-owned striker Folarin Balogun to commit his international future to the United States and snub the Three Lions of England.

Born in New York to Nigerian parents, the Hale End Academy product, who is currently on loan at Stade de Reims, has not ruled out the possibility of representing the Super Eagles in the future.

Balogun is provisionally cap-tied to England and has also represented the Americans at youth level in the past.

The international future of the Anglo-American-Nigerian center forward has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks on the back of his imperious displays for Stade de Reims.

Balogun has mustered fifteen goals in the Ligue 1 to top the scoring charts, an honour he shares with Lille's Jonathan David and PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Wynalda, who represented the United States at the 1990, 1994 and 1998 World Cups, tipped Balogun to be a central figure if the United States Soccer Federation manage to win the race for his services.

Speaking to The Action Network's Wondergoal Podcast, via The Sun, Wynalda said : "I’m impressed with everything about him. The power that he has, the timing of his runs.

"We have to appeal to his ego which is the reality of this. We should let him know that he will be a star.

"An absolute star at a World Cup, in his own country as he was born in New York."

Wynalda went on to reveal that there are incentives coming the way of Balogun should he decide to turn out for the United States.

"We need to lock him in with some sponsors too.  He will be a star with us. He won't necessarily be a star with England.

"It will come down to how important it is for him to be in the spotlight. That’s the only chance we’ve got to get him.

"Everything from the Mastercards, the Budweisers, the Coca-Cola’s, the big ones that will be sponsors of this World Cup. They have to figure out how to fit him into the budget."
