Man Utd legend admits he would prefer Red Devils to sign Super Eagles star instead of Kane
Published: February 24, 2023If Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand had his way, he would prefer the Red Devils to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen instead of Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane.
Manchester United bolstered their attack with the capture of Wout Weghorst on loan in the January transfer window but it was only a stopgap solution as the 2022 World Cup star is expected to return to parent club Burnley at the end of the season.
Kane's future at Tottenham Hotspur has been the subject of speculation with his contract set to run out at the end of next season.
Manchester United have emerged as potential candidates for the signature of the England skipper, who is unlikely to move abroad should he decide to leave Tottenham Hotspur as he's targeting breaking Alan Shearer's Premier League record of 260 goals.
Osimhen has earned plenty of plaudits for his outstanding performances for Napoli this season and the Italian Serie A table toppers have a fight on their hands to keep hold of the striker who is valued at more than 100 million euros.
Explaining why he would prefer a move for Osimhen, Ferdinand said to BT Sport, via Football365 : "I think if I was talking about investing and looking after my money, I’d probably go for Osimhen.
"There’s resale value with his age at 24 years old. It’s gonna be a huge outlay.
"I’d take either. I’ve got be honest with you, if Manchester United add either of those two players you mentioned to their roster they become title contenders. On form he’s [Osimhen] flying.
"You’ve got Rashford and him who are absolutely flying in terms of form. But when you talks about the best players in the world, the Mbappes of this world are still levels above".
Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing Osimhen in the summer, which could spark a bidding war for the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner.
