'I've come close' - Man Utd loanee Shoretire hoping to score his first senior goal
Published: February 24, 2023Manchester United-owned winger Shola Shoretire is hoping to score his first senior goal for Bolton Wanderers.
Premier League 2 football was getting too easy for the England youth international of Nigerian descent, so he was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers for the remainder of the season in the winter transfer market.
Shoretire has endeared himself to the Bolton Wanderers faithful with his outstanding displays but has failed to find the net in seven league games, six of which he started.
The highlight of his performance since his loan move to the Trotters was against Peterborough United at the Weston Homes Stadium, where he inspired the visitors to a 5-0 win on February 11.
The 19-year-old won two penalties converted by Dion Charles in the 42nd and 51st minute.
Though Shoretire is aiming to get on the score sheet, he has stressed that winning as a team is more important than personal glory.
Speaking to the official webpage of Bolton Wanderers, Shoretire stated : "I’ve come close (to scoring)! The two penalties I won at Peterborough, Dion took them as a top scorer and to get the hat-trick, so I was happy for him.
"There are a lot of games left. The main focus is to win but a goal would be brilliant.
"That’s a big part of my game as well, not only scoring but creating chances and trying to get assists and helping the team to win because that’s the positron we’re in now. We need to just keep winning.
"If it’s me scoring the goals, or someone else, as long as we win that’s the main focus."
Shoretire netted five goals in nine PL2 matches for Manchester United development squad before he was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers.
