Flying Eagles defender named in U20 AFCON group stage best XI
Published: February 28, 2023Flying Eagles defender Solomon Agbalaka has been named in the 2023 Africa U20 Cup of Nations group stage best XI.
The 19-year-old went the distance in the three matches played by the seven-time African champions in the group stage, against Senegal, Egypt and Mozambique.
Agbalaka headed home a crucial winner in a 1-0 victory versus Egypt on February 22 and three days later, the onetime Mountain of Fire left-back provided the assist for Nigeria's second goal in a 2-0 win against Mozambique.
The exciting fullback was named the TotalEnergies Man of the Match against Egypt and Mozambique.
The 2023 Africa U20 Cup of Nations group stage best XI is dominated by the Young Teranga Lions - one of the two teams with a one hundred percent record in the competition.
Senegal have contributed four players namely Landing Badji, Mamadou Lamine Camara, Pape Diop and Papa Diallo, while Gambia, the other team with three wins in the group stage, are represented by AC Horsens defender Alagie Saine.
Maurile Bassinga and Prince Soussou (both Congo), Rogers Mugisha and Torach Ochaki (both Uganda), and Abdoul Rachid (Benin) complete the ceremonial eleven.
The Flying Eagles will be aiming to qualify for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup on Thursday evening when they take on Group B winners Uganda at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia.
