What Iwobi did right and wrong in Everton's defeat against Arsenal
Published: March 02, 2023Arsenal went five points clear of closest challengers and Premier League champions, Manchester City on Wednesday night with an emphatic 4-0 win over Everton at the Emirates Stadium.
The win means that the Gunners now have 60 points on the board with 13 league matches left to potentially become the league winners since 2004.
Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli (brace) scored the goals that mattered.
All Nigeria Soccer castS its eye on the game and took the note of the performance of Super Eagles forward cum midfielder, Alex Iwobi.
1. Defensive job
Alex Iwobi had a better first half in terms of his defensive side of the game.
The Nigerian severally was at the defence to aid right back Seamus Coleman to stop Gabriel Martinelli.
Iwobi had a few battles against the young Brazilian. He made one tackle and one interception in the game which is on his good side.
2. Midfield Presence
Alex Iwobi was also noticeably tucking inside the midfield in the latter parts of the game as Everton created bodies where the likes of Odegaard, Fabio Vieria and even Bukayo Saka had converged as Mikel Arteta wielded his tactical stick.
This did not overly go to plans as Iwobi gave away some possessions of the ball in 50/50 duels.
3. Passing duties
The former Arsenal forward made a total of 27 passes in 90 minutes of the game on Wednesday evening.
Iwobi made two long crosses in search of his teammates but only one of them found the target. He also delivered two crosses but only one was accurate.
On aerial duels, he won just one of his efforts in the 42 touches of the ball that he had.
Iwobi does well enough to bring out the ball and make progressive runs from his team's half but he needs to cut down on the number of times that he missed his passes.
