Super Eagles-eligible duo in action as Chelsea are finally back to winning ways
Published: March 04, 2023
Nigeria-eligible duo of Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke started on the bench on Saturday evening in Chelsea's 1-0 win over Leeds United in a Premier League game at Stamford Bridge.
It was Chelsea's first win in the Premier League since Janaury 15, 2023 when they beat Crystal Palace.
The Anglo-Nigerians have thus played nine and four Premier League matches respectively this season.
Leeds were hoping to complete a double over Chelsea after the 3-0 win earlier in the season but Graham Potter's side have not conceded in the first half in 18 of their 24 Premier League matches this season.
Chelsea were restricted for much of the game by the resilient Leeds United
Kai Havertz forced Meslier into a smart save, while Joao Felix hit the post in the first half.
Chelsea then broke the deadlock eight minutes into the second half when Wesley Fofana leapt to head home from a corner kick.
Chukwuemeka created a goal scribing chance in the 77th minute, three minutes after coming on in place of Matteo Kovacic.
However the opportunity was wasted after a promising interplay with Conor Gallagher.
Noni Madueke came off the bench in a double substitution in place of £106 million signing, Enzo Fernandez with six minutes left on the clock.
The Blues remain 10th on the table with 35 points after the victory.
