Published: March 06, 2023With a statement on their official website, Swedish Allsvenskan club Degerfors IF have announced the signing of Nigerian center forward Fortune Bassey on loan from Hungarian outfit Ferencváros TC.
The loan extends throughout the 2023 Swedish season and he linked up with the squad in Malmö this past weekend.
Bassey joined Ferencváros TC on a permanent deal in January 2022, and was part of the squad that won the Nemzeti Bajnokság I and Magyar Kupa in 2021-2022.
He spent the first half of the season on loan at Czech Republic club FC Viktoria Plzen, for whom he made five appearances in the UEFA Champions League including games against Inter Milan, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
The striker began training with his new teammates at Degerfors IF on Monday.
Commenting on the signing of Bassey, Degerfors sporting director Patrik Werner said : "Fortune Bassey is a very interesting player who has done well in both the Czech and Hungarian leagues. He has many qualities that we will benefit from.
"Above all, he is a constant threat in the box, strong in depth and has fine feet. I look forward to seeing him at Stora Valla in 2023."
A product of Eagle Wings, Bassey lists Bohemians Prague 1905, Olympia, Usti nad Labem, SK Dynamo Ceske Budejovice and Vlasim among his previous clubs.
