2023 U20 AFCON : Flying Eagles top five performers in Egypt
Published: March 11, 2023
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria finished third in the U20 African cup of Nations in Egypt by battering Tunisia in the third-place 4-0.
While Ladan Bosso's boys failed to impress for most part of the competition, some players still stood out. Below are the best 5 best players from the Flying Eagles team
1.Chijioke Aniagboso: Aniagboso started the competition as the number two but after a shaky start by Nathaniel Nwosu, he got a chance to impress and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
He brought calmness to the defence, was in good command of his area and was a vocal presence in defence. He kept 4 clean sheets in the competition and conceded just one goal in 5 games.
2.Benjamin Fredrick : One of the players who impressed the scouts in attendance, He went the distance in every single game played by the Flying Eagles in Egypt. He read the game well with his well-timed tackles and interceptions.
3.Solomon Agbalaka: The Flying Eagles left back scored Nigeria's first goal of the competition in the 1-0 over Egypt.
He is a good 1v1 defender and possesses a good recovery pace whenever he goes forward. Agbalaka featured in all Flying Eagles matches and was consistent. He did not get booked throughout the tournament
4. Ibrahim Beji Muhammad: While the attack refused to sparkle, the right winger shone by scoring two goals.
Muhammad will definitely be one of the regular names on the team sheet at the Fifa U-20 World Cup. The belter he scored against Mozambique shows his ability to score from long range and this is a good asset in the arsenal of the Flying Eagles.
5.Jude Sunday: How Ladan Bosso gave this young man little chance to impress is beyond me. While we have complained about quality in attack, Sunday showed us what he is capable of against Tunisia on Friday by scoring two goals.
It will be criminal and suicidal not to give this young man more minutes at the World Cup.
