UCL : Two more goals for Osimhen as Napoli beat Eintracht Frankfurt to advance to quarterfinals
Published: March 15, 2023
Victor Osimhen was on the scoresheet for the umpteenth time this season for Napoli as they beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 at the Diego Maradona Stadium in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16
Osimhen bagged a brace for Napoli as they advanced to the quarterfinals of Europe's elite football competition at the expense of the Europa League holders.
The Serie A table-toppers had earlier defeated the German side 2-0 in Germany and all they had to do was to avoid a defeat to get to the next stage of Europe's elite competition.
Osimhen just like he did in the first leg gave Napoli the lead in a scrappy first half after he met Matteo Politano's cross with a powerful header in the second minute of first half stoppage time.
Di Lorenzo and Osimhen will combine for the second goal in the 53rd minute when the skipper squared the ball into the path of the Nigerian for a tap-in.
But the goal came at a cost as the Napoli number 9 injured his left wrist as he bundled the ball into the net.
Piotr Zielinski gave Luciano Spalletti's men the third of the night in the 64th minute from the penalty spot after Djibril Sow committed a foul in the box.
The Nigeria international couldn't get his hat-trick as he came off for Giovanne Simeone in the 80th minute.
The Super Eagles striker has now scored 4 goals in 5 Champions League games this season while he has netted 23 goals in all competitions for the Parthenopeans.
