Former Gunners stars Iwobi and Ajayi, 6 others report for Super Eagles duty pre-Guinea-Bissau
Published: March 20, 2023
Eight invited players have reported for international duty ahead of the Super Eagles' Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Guinea-Bissau.
Three-time African champions Nigeria will lock horns with the Djurtus at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja in a Group A AFCON qualifying encounter on Friday, March 24.
Former Arsenal players Alex Iwobi and Semi Ajayi, who are currently on the books of Everton and West Brom respectively, are among the eight players in camp as at the time of this report.
Ajayi has risen up the pecking order of central defenders thanks to William Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun's injury troubles, while Iwobi is all but guaranteed a starting spot on Friday.
Southampton midfielder Joe Aribo, Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho and former Everton winger Ademola Lookman are the other invitees with Premier League experience who are currently in the nation's capital, Abuja.
Completing the players in camp are TSG Hoffenheim central defender Kevin Akpoguma, goalkeepers Francis Uzoho and Chijioke Aniagboso.
It is envisaged that all the twenty three invited players should be in camp latest by the close of business on Tuesday, March 21.
