Former African Footballer of the Year tips Arsenal to beat Man City to Premier League title
Published: March 21, 2023Former Nigeria international and 1997 African Footballer of The Year award winner Victor Nosa Ikpeba on Monday believes that English Premier League leaders, Arsenal have the momentum to lift the title at the expense of current champions Manchester City.
Speaking on SuperSportt magazine show, Monday Night Football, Ikpeba who has in previous editions of the programme given the Gunners a 60% chance of winning the Premier League however opines that a certain past contender for the title might decide the pendulum of the title triumph.
"Arsenal have won six consecutive league games since they lost to Manchester City. Arsenal in that run are known to win games from week to week," the onetime AS Monaco superstar said.
"All games are difficult until the end of the season. And I've said it before, Arsenal might win the Premier League.
"Liverpool have a big say in how the title fight goes. They can play the spoilers in the game against Man City (on April 1). That game is key.
"If (Man) City can beat Liverpool in that game, then it will really go down to the wire. That's my feeling but I don't see that consistency in this City side. "
Ikpeba however considers star striker, Erling Haaland as the difference maker in the hugely experienced City team that have sometimes faltered when least expected against supposedly weaker opposition.
"With (Erling) Haaland back in form with nine goals in three games, I think we will see the City of old. It's going to be a two-horse race between City and Arsenal.
Arsenal, are currently atop the Premier League table with 69 points from 28 matches, eight points above City who have a game in hand.
Mikel Arteta's side will face Leeds United when they return from the international break.
