England provisionally cap-tie exciting teenage Chelsea defender of Nigerian descent

By making his competitive debut for the Young Lions on Wednesday, March 22,  exciting Chelsea fullback of Nigerian descent Somto Boniface is now provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth, England, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

Young Lions head coach Ryan Garry selected Boniface, West Brom midfielder Jamaldeen Jimoh and Arsenal striker Ethan Nwaneri in a 21-player roster for this month's UEFA U17 EURO elite round qualifiers.

Boniface started and was in action for 90 minutes plus two minutes of stoppage time as England started the qualifiers on a winning note by beating Denmark 3-1 at the Nieuw Zuid-Katwijk.

It is believed that the Nigeria Football Federation did not consider Boniface a high priority recruitment considering the fact that he was not invited to the Golden Eaglets squad.

Before making his competitive debut for the Young Lions, Boniface appeared in non-binding games for England at U16 and U17 levels, which didn't provisionally cap-tie him to the European nation.

Boniface featuring against Demark U17s  does not mean he is out of reach as he could switch his nationality to Nigeria in future provided that he does not make his competitive debut for the Three Lions.

The London native signed his first professional contract with Chelsea last week, after turning 17.

Nwaneri was the star of the show in England's win over Denmark, bagging a brace in the first half.
