Dual nationals watch : Nwaneri bags brace, Madueke puts on show, Goodman debuts for Young Lions
Published: March 26, 2023
Arsenal attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri has been England's standout performer in the elite round of the 2023 European U17 Championship qualifiers.
The Flying Eagles-eligible player bagged a brace to help the Young Lions beat Denmark in their first game of the U17 EURO elite round qualifying on March 22.
Three days later, Nwaneri scored a second half brace as England defeated Northern Ireland 2-0 at the Gemeentelijk Sportpark S.J.C., Noordwijk.
Including his strikes against Lithuania and Georgia, Nwaneri has mustered six goals for the Young Lions in competitive matches this season.
After coming off the bench in the 66th minute to replace Emile Smith Rowe, Chelsea winger Noni Madueke played a key role as England U21s ended France's fourteen-match and two-year unbeaten run with a 4-0 rout of Les Bleuets at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise, wearing the number 22 at the back of his jersey, started and was in action for 74 minutes for France.
In the 77th minute, Madueke netted his first goal in England U21 colours, doubling the Young Lions' advantage in the process, before setting up Curtis Jones and Jacob Ramsey for the third and fourth goal respectively.
After rejecting an invitation to train with the Flying Eagles in January, Crystal Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman made his debut for the England U20 squad in a 4-2 win over the United States in a friendly in Marbella on Saturday.
Goodman, who is also eligible for Canada, replaced Brentford goalkeeper Matthew Cox with eighteen minutes remaining.
