'I would prefer he chooses England' - Arsenal star has his say on Balogun's international future
Published: March 27, 2023
Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe has had his say on the international future of Folarin Balogun.
The midfielder has said that he wants Balogun to pledge his allegiance to England.
Both players are graduates of the Arsenal academy and are playing together at the moment for England U21s.
The Arsenal loanee's international future is uncertain as he is yet to pledge his allegiance to Nigeria, England or the USA, the three countries he is eligible to represent.
Balogun was pictured in Orlando last week and it has been reported that he has had a conversation with USMNT's interim coach, Anthony Hudson, thereby sparking speculation that he might be on the verge of committing his international future to the USMNT.
Speaking about Balogun's future, the Arsenal midfielder was quoted as saying by Football.London : "Of course [I would prefer he chooses England], but it's his decision, that's down to him to do what he wants to do.
"It would be nice if he could be with us in the summer but as I said, that's down to him and he's got to do what's best for him."
Balogun could not line up with Smith Rowe in the Young Lions' win over France U21s having withdrawn from the squad due to injury.
The Hale End Academy graduate has 7 goals in 13 matches for England U21s and previously played for England's U17, U18 and U20 teams. He has also featured for the United States U18s.
