Published: April 01, 2023
Chelsea U18s got their second win since the confirmation of Nigerian football tactician Hassan Sulaiman as the new coach of the side.
The young Blues scored at least four goals for the second consecutive game, beating Aston Villa 4-1 at the Cobham Training Ground on Saturday.
Coach Sulaiman named two Flying Eagles-eligible players in the starting XI, Mendel-Idowu started in attack while Somto Boniface started at left-back.
Aston Villa took the lead in the 7th minute through an own goal from Kaide Wilson.
It will take Chelsea 13 minutes to get the equaliser after a quick counter-attack which was finished by Ronnier Stutter.
The first half ended in parity with both sides failing to take the initiative to take the lead.
Another Flying Eagles-eligible player Louis Flower who came on three minutes before the end of the first half due to an injury to Donnell McNeilly gave the young Blues the lead in the 64th minute through a well-taken shot.
Kiano Dyer scored his first goal in the 67th minute to double Chelsea's lead after brilliant work.
Stutter would get his second of the day through the penalty spot in the 73rd minute after Mendel-Idowu was brought down.
Despite the victory, Chelsea U18s still sit fifth in the southern group of the English U-18 Premier League.
