Official : Frank Lampard to coach Super Eagles-eligible duo at Chelsea until season's end
Published: April 06, 2023
With a statement on their official website, Chelsea have confirmed that Frank Lampard will take charge of the club on a caretaker bass until the end of the 2022-2023 season.
Chelsea new owners have sacked two permanent coaches in the same season, something that never happened during Roman Abramovich's ownership of the west London club.
Lampard will be coaching Nigeria-eligible youngsters Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke for the remainder of the season.
The England legend worked with another England youth international of Nigerian descent Faustino Anjorin in his first spell in charge of the Blues, from the summer of 2019 to the end of January 2021.
Lampard takes over from Bruno Saltor, who was in the Chelsea dugout for their goalless draw against Liverpool on Tuesday.
A midfielder during his playing days, Lampard watched Chelsea's last game from the stands, fueling speculation about a possible return to Stamford Bridge.
The 44-year-old is Chelsea's all-time top goalscorer in history, scoring 211 goals in 648 games and provided 145 assists.
Chelsea co-controlling owner Todd Boehly is expected to announce a new manager before the start of next season, with Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique the top two favorites for the permanent job.
