Mikel endorses appointment of former teammate Lampard as Chelsea's caretaker boss
Published: April 06, 2023
Retired Nigeria international John Obi Mikel has seemingly endorsed the appointment of Frank Lampard as Chelsea's caretaker boss.
Two days before the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers for a Premier League clash, the Blues hierarchy confirmed the return of Lampard to Stamford Bridge, two years after he was fired.
Chelsea are in search of a new coach after parting company with Graham Potter following a poor run of results in domestic competitions, and as a stopgap measure, Lampard will oversee the first team until the end of the 2022-2023 season.
In his first spell as Chelsea boss, albeit on a permanent basis, the English football tactician won 44 games from a possible 84, drew fifteen and was beaten twenty five times.
Mikel and Lampard know each other from way back as the two midfielders were teammates at Chelsea for eight years, before the Englishman joined Manchester City on a free transfer in the summer of 2014.
The pair won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Community Shield, UEFA Champions League and Europa League during their time together as players at Chelsea.
Mikel reacted to a video posted by Chelsea on their official Instagram page announcing the return of Lampard to the club.
The video has been liked by the Super Eagles legend and 323,214 other Instagram users as at the time of this report.
