Four observations from Super Falcons' 2-1 win over Haiti in pre-World Cup friendly
Published: April 07, 2023
Nine-time African women's champions, Super Falcons defeated Haiti 2-1 Friday evening in the first of their two friendlies in Turkey ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
There were a few notable things in the game worth highlighting.
Allnigeriasoccer.com here presents four observations from the match at the Emir Sports Complex, Antalya, Turkey.
1. Good buildups by Nigeria
The Super Falcons had great buildups especially from from the wings and caused the Caribbeans' full backs all sorts of problems in defence.
Speed, trickery and invention were in their repertoire.
2. Sloppy defending by Nigeria defenders
Despite the attacking threats of the Super Falcons, their backline was not particularly impressive.
They were carved open by the nippy Haitians especially in the first half and that paid off albeit too little. Haiti pulled one back in the closing minutes of the contest after they profited from a defensive mix up.
3. Missed chances by the Falcons
For all their nice play from the back and the wings, the end products would need to be much better.
The Super Falcons had several goal scoring chances but missed a whole lot of them.
Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade in particular were presented with lots of chances but were not precise enough to further punish the Haitians.
4. Haiti promise
Despite their defeat, the Haitians showed some promises and could be a force to reckon with in the coming years.
The team may not have the star names like their Nigerian opponents but their team play and attitude were impeccable.
Towards the end of the game, Haiti came close to a leveler but struck the woodwork, with goalkeeper Nnadozie beaten. Luckily Nigeria edged it for a 2-1 win.
