Ex-Chelsea captain praises quality of Eze's goal v Leeds, highlights part played by Olise

Former Chelsea captain Andy Townsend picked out the goal scored by Super Eagles-eligible midfielder, Eberechi Eze for praises in Crystal Palace's 5-1 mauling of Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday.

The Eagles came from a goal down to clinch the away win despite their hosts being on the front foot for most parts of the first half.

Palace under new manager, Roy Hodgson, who made a return to the side he once handled, having not won an away trip in the year 2023 before his appointment turned on the style in the second half.

Eze, who is yet to play for the Three Lions of England at the senior level and is considered by most concerned Nigerian football supporters as the creative spark lacking in the Super Eagles midfield, was aided for his goal by another player of Nigerian descent who could also play for the national team - Michael Olise.

"There's class about that (Eze's goal). Again from the minute they picked the ball up from the halfway line, they just pinched it back, right here (as the goal is played back on television)," Townsend, on commentary duties for the Premier League world feed said, said.

"And again, when they get on the half turn, Eze again is involved in that pocket."

Continuing, Townsend then highlighted the part played by Michael Olise in the execution of the 55th minute goal.

"It comes down to Olise. Again, Junior Firpo is on a yellow card, (he) doesn't want to squeeze and he backed off, and if you back off, good players will find a way. Good players will spot a pass and see the run and that's what Olise does.

"Lovely finish from Eze. That's incredible. Palace have come from rear, now they have genuine cushion in the game and Leeds would have to think very, very quickly. Javi Gracia would surely make changes," Townsend posited.

Marc Guehi, Jordan Ayew (2) and Odsonne Edouard were the scorers of the other Palace goals.
