Manchester United-owned winger Shoretire denied first senior goal by referee's call

Manchester United-owned player Shola Shoretire returned to Bolton Wanderers starting lineup as they were forced to a 1-1 draw by Cambridge United in a League One meeting at the University of Bolton Stadium on Easter Monday.

In what was their third game in eight days, manager Ian Evatt made four changes to the starting lineup to try and freshen things up, one of which saw Shoretire welcomed back to the starting XI.

The England youth international of Nigerian descent was introduced off the bench against Sheffield Wednesday, playing the last eighteen minutes in a 1-1 draw, then was an unused substitute against Exeter City.

Against Plymouth Argyle in the Papa Johns Trophy final last weekend, the diminutive winger was ineligible to take to the pitch, having represented his parent club Manchester United earlier in the competition.

Shoretire thought he had scored his first senior goal against Cambridge United with almost the last kick of the first half when he had the ball in the net but his effort was ruled out for offside by the referee.

Around the hour mark, the Anglo-Nigerian made way for Manchester United academy product Kieran Lee.

Shoretire has now played eighteen matches as a professional without getting on the scoresheet, including five for the Red Devils.

Bolton Wanderers were denied all three points courtesy of a late goal from Sam Smith, who canceled out Declan John's 67th minute strike.
