Six-time European champions like Osimhen but price tag could prove a stumbling block
Published: April 10, 2023
Six-time European champions Bayern Munich are interested in signing former Wolfsburg striker Victor Osimhen.
This is according to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, who also claimed that the Napoli striker's price tag could be a stumbling block for Bayern to make the deal happen.
Osimhen, who is on the wishlist of European giants Manchester United, Chelsea and PSG, is the top scorer in Serie A with 21 goals and leading the charge for the Parthenopeans' first league title in 33 years.
With Osimhen having two years left on his contract at Napoli, the Serie A table-toppers could consider selling the number 9 to the highest bidder in the summer.
Plettenberg revealed that there was a phone call between Bayern and Osimhen's management last month, adding that the club bosses told the player's camp that he is too expensive with an expected transfer fee of much more than €100m.
The Bavarians have relied on Eric Choupo-Moting to lead the attack since the departure of Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona last summer and are seeking a permanent successor for the Polish striker.
Osimhen started his professional career at Wolfsburg, for whom he made sixteen appearances before sealing a permanent transfer to Sporting Charleroi in 2019.
