Championship : Arsenal product Akpom equals Bowen's record of scoring in 8 consecutive home games
Published: April 15, 2023
Arsenal's Hale End Academy product Chuba Akpom equaled the Championship record for most goals scored by a player in consecutive home games when he netted in Middlesbrough's 5-1 win over Norwich City on Friday evening.
Akpom scored Boro's fifth goal in the 49th minute when converted the ball into the net from a pass from Cameron Archer.
Akpom has now equaled Jarrod Bowen's record for most consecutive goals scored at home in the Championship, which the latter set in 2019 while playing for Hull City when he scored in 8 straight home games.
The former England U21 international has also stretched his record for most consecutive home goals scored for Middlesbrough, having found the back of the net in his last 8 appearances at the Riverside Stadium.
The 27-year-old found the net in back-to-back home games against Watford, Blackpool (2), Queens Park Rangers (2), Reading (2), Stoke City, Preston North End, Burnley and Norwich City.
Akpom is the leading top scorer in the league with 27 goals in 35 matches, and has registered two assists, which has earned him a nomination for the EFL Championship Player of the Year, Boro's Player of the Year and Boro's Goal of the Year awards.
