Ex-Chelsea and Arsenal star Carney labels Ndidi's performance against Man City 'nightmare'
Published: April 15, 2023
Former Chelsea and Arsenal Women's striker Karen Carney described Wilfred Ndidi's performance in Leicester City's 3-1 as 'nightmare' after his handball led to City second goal - a penalty scored by Erling Haaland who now has 32 Premier League goals in a single season to his name.
The referee did not initially award a penalty to Manchester City but changed his decision after he was asked to go to the monitor by the video assistant referee.
Carney was on the Premier League Productions studio for the match analysis and had this to say about Ndidi who was substituted off in the 87th minute by Zambian striker Patson Daka.
"He's (Ndidi) had a bit of a nightmare the whole game to be honest. At least I don't know what he's thinking. He's there one-on-one with Grealish.
"He knows he's going to get to the byline, cross is coming in. As soon as Jack (Grealish) crossed it, I think we all said that's a penalty.
"His arm (Ndidi's) clearly hit it. That's a blatant handball. To be fair, Grealish should have had one before this," Carney insisted.
Ndidi has been in and out of the Leicester City starting lineup since the season started due to injury or loss of form.
Next fixture for Ndidi and his Leicester City teammates is a home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, April 22.
Arsenal's lead at the top of the table is now cut to just three points with the Gunners set to face West Ham United on Sunday and would need to defeat their London rivals to be six points clear at the top.
