Burnley and Southampton discuss permanent deal for Arsenal-reared Nigerian striker
Published: April 18, 2023Premier League-bound Burnley are hoping to retain the services of Nigeria-eligible player Nathan Tella next season.
The Arsenal youth team product joined the Clarets from Southampton last summer in search of regular first team football, which the Saints could not offer him after bringing in Joe Aribo, Sam Edozie and Sékou Mara to bolster the attack.
Tella played a prominent role as Burnley sealed promotion to the Premier League, registering seventeen goals and five assists in 38 outings in the Championship.
Burnley are delighted with the performances of Tella and want him to stay at the club beyond the end of this season.
According to Football Insider, Burnley want to make permanent his loan deal and have started discussions with Southampton, but talks are at an early stage with the Saints battling to avoid the drop.
Per the report, Burnley will have to make a substantial offer to prise him from Southampton.
The Stevenage-born Tella has seven goal involvements (2 goals, 5 assists) in 41 outings for Southampton's first team, and it remains to be seen whether an agreement can be reached with Burnley over his future.
Tella has approximately two years to run on his contract at Southampton having signed a new deal in January 2022.
