Aribo snub and takeaways from Onuachu's performance in Southampton's 3-3 draw v Arsenal
Published: April 21, 2023
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu made a cameo in Southampton's 3-3 draw against Premier league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night.
The bottom-placed side seemed destined for relegation but produced one of their best performances in the Premier League thi sseason.
Onuachu came off the substitute bench in the match and helped his team to see out the game.
These are the observations made by All Nigeria Soccer from the game.
1. Right flank play
All Nigeria Soccer noticed the striker drifting to the right side of attack when he came on albeit for a brief period of time but would soon move centrally to receive balls inside the box.
2. Defending from the front
There was a moment in the game when Onuachu stood in front of the ball as the Gunners wanted to play a free-kick.
That momentary delay deprived Mikel Arteta of some precious seconds in the attacking phase.
Good game management, some call it.
3. Aribo situation
Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo was an unused substitute throughout the game.
The former Glasgow Rangers star has not played an awful lots of games for the club this season.
The career of the left-footed midfielder is literally suffering and it just seemed like his decision to quit the Gers just like Onuachu left his comfort zone in Belgium in retrospect is now a great mistake.
England youth international of Nigerian descent, Sam Edozie was not in the matchday squad.
