Ex-Rangers GK insists Van Nistelrooy was given unrealistic target despite Madueke, Gakpo sale

Former Rangers glovesman and retired Netherlands international Ronald Waterreus has criticized the leadership of PSV Eindhoven for giving manager Ruud van Nistelrooy an unrealistic target of winning the Dutch Eredivisie title despite the club losing two of their key players in the January transfer window.
England U21 international of Nigerian descent Noni Madueke switched to Chelsea, while Netherlands World Cup star Cody Gakpo was acquired by Liverpool.
PSV will receive in the region of 80 million euros plus add-ons from the Premier League clubs for the two talented youngsters.
Peace has seemingly returned to the Eindhoven club after they beat Calvin Bassey's Ajax Amsterdam to win the KNVB Cup on Sunday, but they are not in contention to win the Eredivisie, given that they are eight points adrift of table toppers Feyenoord with four games to the end of the season.
In quotes relayed by PSV Inside, Waterreus stated : "But also in Eindhoven, the directors in particular can count on themselves that their club has lost the battle with Feyenoord.
"Without Noni Madueke and Cody Gakpo, they have saddled Ruud van Nistelrooij with an unreasonable championship assignment.
"Its consequences are obvious. Just like in Amsterdam, a major renovation is also necessary in the Philips Stadium in order to be able to compete for the title next season".
Madueke registered 20 goals and 14 assists in 80 games as a PSV player before moving to Stamford Bridge.
The Anglo-Nigerian has found playing opportunities limited at Chelsea with only two starts from a possible thirteen in the Premier League.
