Lampard makes promise to Madueke after his first goal in Chelsea colours
Published: May 02, 2023
Chelsea's caretaker boss Frank Lampard has vowed to give more playing opportunities to Noni Madueke in the last five games of the Premier League season after the winger's impressive performance against Arsenal on Tuesday night.
With Arsenal three goals up, the England U21 international of Nigerian descent pulled one back with Chelsea's first shot of the second half - his first goal for the club.
Madueke was a provider of goals and assists during his time at PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands, registering 34 goal involvements (20 goals, 14 assists) in 80 appearances before sealing a transfer to Chelsea in the January transfer window.
It has taken the 21-year-old time to adapt to the demands of the Premier League, albeit he has found game time hard to come by, but he's now up and running with his first goal in the English top-flight.
At minute 65, Madueke squeezed one back for Chelsea after a lovely pass from Mateo Kovacic.
Speaking post-match, Lampard stressed that he preferred to talk about the collective, but singled out Madueke for praise.
The Chelsea legend told Sky Sports : "If I want to talk about an individual I might be talking about Noni, who scored the goal, came in and played like he's been training, and that's a good example. He'll get more opportunities."
Former Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace youth teamer Madueke has logged 305 minutes in the Premier League from a possible 1260 since his move to Stamford Bridge.
