Official: Arsenal youth product Okenabirhie offered new contract by Cambridge United
Published: May 12, 2023
With a statement on their official website, EFL League One club Cambridge United have announced their retained and released list following the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season.
One of the decisions taken after post-season meetings between first team players and management was to offer a new contract to Arsenal youth team product of Nigerian descent Fejiri Okenabirhie.
Okenabirhie joined the U's on a one-year contract last summer following his release by Doncaster Rovers.
The 27-year-old appeared in 21 matches for Cambridge United in the recently concluded season, scoring two goals which came against Northampton Town in a Papa Johns Trophy match in September.
After spending seven years at Arsenal, Okenabirhie joined Stevenage as a trainee in 2012, followed by spells at Harrow Borough, Dagenham & Redbridge and Shrewsbury Town.
He was formerly a target of the Nigeria Football Federation, with former president Amaju Pinnick holding talks with the striker over committing his future to the Super Eagles eight years ago.
On his curriculum vitae, he enjoyed loan spells at Bedford Town, Farnborough, Cambridge City and Royston Town during his time at Stevenage.
