Peseiro watches three Super Eagles invitees ahead of AFCON qualifier v Sierra Leone
Published: June 11, 2023Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro was in attendance at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos on Friday as Rivers United and Bendel Insurance faced off in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) playoffs, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Portuguese football tactician was at the venue of the match to run the rule over three players he has invited for next weekend's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Sierra Leone.
Peseiro has been directed by the Nigeria Football Federation to name at least three home-based players on his roster for international matches.
Against the Leone Stars, he has called up Rivers United duo Victor Sochima and Chidiebube Duru, Bendel Insurance young sensation Divine Nwachukwu and Enyimba's Olorunleke Ojo.
Sochima, Duru and Nwachukwu started for their respective teams and gave a good account of themselves with Peseiro watching with keen interest.
The Rivers United glovesman was close to keeping a clean sheet until he was beaten in stoppage time by a header from Nwachukwu - the attacking midfielder's second headed goal in back-to-back matches in the NPFL.
The aforementioned players are seeking their first international caps in the matchday five AFCON qualifier against the Leone Stars.
Peserio was in attendance for games involving Terem Moffi, Victor Boniface, Raphael Onyedika and Gift Orban in April but has omitted the four players from the squad to face Sierra Leone.
