Standard Liege on the brink of signing Southampton's Belgian winger of Nigerian descent
Published: June 12, 2023
Belgium underage international of Nigerian descent Kazeem Olaigbe is being linked with a move to Jupiler Pro League side Standard Liege.
According to several reports in the Belgian press including Het Nieuwsblad, Olaigbe's transfer to Standard Liege is imminent, with the winger expected to sign a three-year-deal with the option of an additional season at the beginning of this week.
Considered one of the hottest Belgian prospects, Olaigbe joined Southampton on a scholarship deal in July 2019, before signing a professional contract in January 2020.
The 20-year-old was nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season in 2022 on the back of his impressive performances that saw him score 21 goals in all competitions for Southampton B.
Olaigbe received his first and only call-up to the first team of Southampton in an Emirates FA Cup against Swansea City in January 2022 but was not utilized off the bench by manager Ralph Hasenhüttl.
The former Anderlecht youth teamer spent the first half of last season at Scottish club Ross County FC, for whom he made twenty five appearances and scored two goals.
He enjoyed a loan spell at League Two club Harrogate Town in the second half of the campaign, bagging three goals and five assists in nineteen games.
