Rangers' striker search: Bordeaux's Nigeria international not currently at the top of the shortlist
Published: June 13, 2023
Rangers are combing the market for a new striker as a replacement for Colombia international Alfredo Morelos who is set to end his six-year association with the Glasgow-based club at the end of the month.
One of the names being considered for the striker role is Super Eagles star Josh Maja, who had an excellent season at Bordeaux on a personal level, with seventeen goals in all competitions.
Looking at the bigger picture, Bordeaux will not be making an immediate return to the Ligue 1, throwing the future of Maja into doubt as he runs out of contract at the end of this month.
The 24-year-old's contract would have been extended had Bordeaux secured promotion to the French top-flight.
According to Football Scotland, Maja is not currently at the top of the shortlist within the recruitment circles at Rangers but his name has previously mentioned and things could move fast.
Maja's agent has close links with Rangers, having brokered the deals that took Joe Aribo and former Golden Eaglets invitee Malcolm Ebiowei to Ibrox.
The two players being considered to strengthen Rangers' attack are Cremonese's Cyriel Dessers and Atalanta-owned striker Sam Lammers.
Maja joined Bordeaux from Sunderland in January 2019 and enjoyed loan spells at Fulham and Stoke City in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
