'Hard for him to not go to Chelsea' - Pundit makes big transfer claim about Osimhen
Published: June 14, 2023
Former Sky Sports reporter Graeme Bailey has claimed that he expects Chelsea to win the race for the signature of Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window.
Osimhen's future at Napoli has been the subject of speculation for close to a year, with the Super Eagles star linked with possible moves to Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
The 24-year-old enhanced his reputation by playing an influential role as Napoli won the Serie A title for the first time in thirty three years and ended the campaign as the top marksman in the division with 26 goals.
Chelsea are in search for a number 9 amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Romelu Lukaku.
The Blues struggled for goals throughout last season, with Germany international Kai Havertz their top scorer in the Premier League with seven goals.
Bailey namchecked Osimhen as he discussed Newcastle United's interest in his Napoli teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
"You know, they (Newcastle) have looked at Napoli, Kvaratskhelia, Kvaradona as we call him, he’s more one they have looked at quite intensively," he said to Chasing Green Arrows Podcast, via Football365.
“Osimhen, from what we hear is that it’s going to be hard for him to not go to Chelsea at this point."
With Osimhen said to have a price tag in the region of 130 million euros, Chelsea are one of the few clubs that have the finances to be able to afford the Nigerian but the stumbling block is that they have missed out on Champions League football.
