Official: Portuguese club Varzim announce signing of Silas
Published: June 14, 2023
Through official channels, Portuguese club Varzim have announced the capture of Nigerian winger Onyekachi Silas.
The 27-year-old has put pen on paper to a one-season contract that will keep him at the White and Blacks until the end of the 2023-2024 campaign.
He becomes the sixth acquisition of Varzim ahead of next season, after Gonçalo Pimenta, Álvaro Milhaze, Nuno Pereira, Joca and Vasco Rocha.
Silas has joined Varzim as a free agent, having ended his association with another Portuguese team Paredes, where he scored one goal in twenty one appearances across all competitions last season.
He has been playing in Portugal since the 2014-2015 season, starting out with Boavista followed by spells at Gondomar, Marinhense, Gil Vicente, Vilafranquense, Torreense, Alverca and Paredes.
Overall, he has totaled forty one goals since his arrival in Portuguese football.
Silas is a versatile striker who can be deployed as a center forward and can also play on both flanks.
Varzim were demoted from the Liga Portugal 2 in 2021-2022 after finishing seventeenth in the table.
