Official: Paderborn loan in former Bayern Munich youth teamer Ezekwem
Published: June 16, 2023
Through a statement on their official website, German 2. Bundesliga side SC Paderborn 07 have announced the temporary signing of former Bayern Munich youth teamer of Nigerian descent Kimberly Ezekwem.
The 21-year-old moved from FC Bayern Munich to Freiburg U19s in 2018, rising through the ranks to become a key player for the U23 side of the Breisgau Brazilian.
He was an influential member of the Freiburg reserve team that won the Regionalliga Südwest in the 2020-2021 season, registering fourteen assists in thirty seven appearances.
Ezekwem made his Bundesliga debut on May 6, 2023, coming off the bench for the last seven minutes of a 1-0 loss against RB Leipzig.
The Munich native has received four call-ups to the first team, all of them for Bundesliga matches.
Commenting on the signing of Ezekwem, Managing Director Sport Benjamin Weber told Paderborn's official website: "Kimberly has very good footballing qualities that he can use to drive the game forward. He can be used on the left in a back three or on the left wing.
"With his skills, he fits in perfectly with our game system."
Ezekwem is the fifth new player signed by Paderborn for the 2023-2024 season, after David Kinsombi, Mattes Hansen, Laurin Curda and Antonio Grimaldi.
The left-back was called up to Germany's U20 national team in August 2021 but withdrew from the squad due to a muscle injury.
