Sierra Leone make late change to squad ahead of AFCONQ against Super Eagles

Sierra Leone have made a late change to the squad that will be squaring up against the Super Eagles on matchday five of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.

The Sierra Leone Football Association announced on Saturday afternoon that Joseph Cleveland has been replaced by Lamin Conteh barely 24 hours before the clash against the Super Eagles.

The reason revealed for this late substitution is reportedly due to an administrative issue on the part of Cleveland's representatives which has made him ineligible to feature on Sunday.

Cleveland who plays for Ports Authority in Sierra Leone is yet to feature for the senior national team.

Conteh on the other hand has been in the matchday squad on three occasions in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

John Keister's side will have to secure the maximum points against Nigeria to keep alive their hopes of making it to Africa's biggest football tournament next year.

They sit in third position in Group A of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying table with five points.
