'We want to qualify' - Aribo hopeful Super Eagles will wrap up AFCON qualification in Monrovia
Published: June 18, 2023
Sierra Leone will host the Super Eagles on matchday five of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia on Sunday evening.
The Super Eagles, who are on nine points after four matches, need just a point from their remaining two matches in Group A to qualify for next year's tournament in Ivory Coast.
On the other hand, the Leone Stars must win the game to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the AFCON, while a win or draw by the Super Eagles would also ensure Guinea-Bissau's qualification.
Nigeria have not been convincing in their last three meetings against Sierra Leone with two draws before claiming a slender 2-1 win on matchday one of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Joe Aribo is urging his teammates to get the business done this evening by avoiding defeat to the Leone Stars.
Speaking to reporters before the trip to Monrovia, Aribo stated: "Of course we want to qualify. What we just have to do now is take the next game as it comes, and just push and fight, and we'll get there by God's grace."
Aribo is no more a guaranteed starter for the Super Eagles due to his lack of playing time at Southampton and manager Jose Peseiro's desire to deploy Alex Iwobi as a central midfielder.
