Younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee returns to Celtic after loan spell
Published: June 20, 2023
Tobi Oluwayemi will not be joining League of Ireland Premier Division side Cork City on a permanent deal.
According to the Irish Mirror, Oluwayemi hs returned to parent club Glasgow Celtic following the conclusion of his loan spell at Cork City.
Tobi is the younger brother of Portsmouth goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi, who was called up to the Super Eagles squad for their international friendly against Mexico in the United States in July 2021 but was a non-playing substitute.
Tobi's loan spell at Cork City was due to run out at the end of this month but the goalkeeper has returned early to Celtic to receive treatment, having suffered a groin injury after just two matches for the Rebel Army.
The injury sustained by Oluwayemi saw him miss out on a place in Ian Foster's Young Lions squad for the 2023 Fifa U20 World Cup in Argentina.
The 20-year-old was highly rated by former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, who included him in game day squads for the Europa League and Europa Conference League.
Oluwayemi joined Celtic in February 2019 from the Tottenham Hotspur academy and has a year left on his contract with the Hoops.
