Published: June 27, 2023
English Premier League newcomers Luton Town now have two Lagos-born players in their first team squad following the signing of cap-tied Republic of Ireland international Chiedozie Ogbene on Tuesday.
Ogbene links up with three other players of Nigerian descent at the Hatters namely Lagos-born winger Fred Onyedinma, Fulham academy product Elijah Adebayo and former Reading development squad captain Gabriel Osho.
Luton Town announced through their official website that Ogbene will complete his move to the club upon the expiry of his contract with Rotherham United on June 30.
The Hatters have not provided any information on the length and financial details of Ogbene's contract.
Ogbene entered into the history books as the first player born in Africa to represent the Republic of Ireland when he made his debut for the Boys in Green in an international friendly against Hungary on June 8, 2021.
The 26-year-old has been playing for Rotherham United since 2019 after spells at Cork City, Limerick, Brentford and Exeter City.
He spent the formative years of his career with Tramore Athletic, College Corinthians, Kilreen Celtic and Everton.
Last season, Ogbene made 42 appearances for Rotherham in all competitions last season, scoring nine goals and providing four assists.
