Official: Collins breaks Schade's record of being Brentford's most expensive signing
Published: July 04, 2023
Super Eagles-eligible winger Kevin Schade is no longer the most expensive Brentford signing in history after the transfer of Wolverhampton Wanderers' Republic of Ireland international Nathan Collins to the Bees on Tuesday, July 4.
The two-cap Germany international completed a permanent transfer to Brentford on June 12, with the Bees officially confirming that he joined for a club record undisclosed fee.
Schade initially arrived on loan at the Gtech Community Stadium in the January transfer window, which was made permanent twenty two days ago.
Although the transfer fee Brentford paid SC Freiburg has not been disclosed, a €25m fee has been mooted.
Brentford have not given details of the fee they used to prise Collins from Wolverhampton Wanderers, but informed that the central defender has been transferred for a club-record fee.
Italian transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano tweeted this afternoon that Collins has joined Brentford for a fee of 23 million pounds (approximately €26.85m), meaning the Irishman is more expensive than Scahde by €1.85m.
Schade made nineteen appearances for Brentford in the second half of last season, and his only goal involvement came in a 3-2 win versus Fulham.
The 21-year-old was a key member of Germany's squad to the 2023 European U21 Championship, where he went the distance in all the matches played by his country of birth.
