Middlesbrough yet to receive official offers for Arsenal youth product Akpom
Published: July 22, 2023
Middlesbrough are trying to convince Arsenal's Hale End Academy product Chuba Akpom to stay at the club beyond this summer.
Akpom has not figured for Middlesbrough in their pre-season games and was left out of the training camp squad to Portugal, but it has nothing to do with speculation linking him with a departure from the Riverside Stadium.
The 27-year-old has not taken part in pre-season activities with the group because he is still recovering from a knee injury he sustained in his final game last season against Coventry City.
According to Teesside Live, Middlesbrough have not received any offers for Akpom as of now but the striker is attracting interest from some Premier League and European clubs.
With less than a year left on Akpom's contract, Boro have a key decision to make regarding the future of the prolific striker, whether to cash in on the player or allow him run down his contract if he does not sign a new deal.
Middlesbrough higher-ups are in talks with Akpom's camp over a new contract but no agreement has been found yet.
The Super Eagles hopeful had a breakout season in 2022-2023, scoring 28 goals in 38 appearances in the Championship to lead the scoring charts in the division.
Akpom scooped the Championship Player of the Season at the EFL awards, and claimed Boro's Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year.
