Super Eagles winger Lookman at the double for Atalanta in 10-0 walkover win v FC Locarno
Published: July 23, 2023
Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman bagged a brace in Atalanta's 10-0 win over Swiss side Locarno yesterday evening.
Lookman made an instant impact as he got his name on the score sheet as early as the 8th minute of the game to give Atalanta the lead before getting his second in the 28th minute to make it 3-0.
The former RB Leipzig star broke the deadlock when he found himself in a 1v1 situation and slotted past the goalkeeper after receiving a delightful lob pass from Højlund.
Lookman tripled the advantage with a shot from a tight angle.
Braces from Luis Muriel, and Teun Koopmeiners coupled with a goal apiece from Michael Pasalic, Davide Zappacosta, Joakim Mæhle and Michel Adopo helped Gian Gasperini's side complete the rout.
While the Nigeria international was in action for an hour, Super Eagles target Caleb Okoli entered the game as a substitute at halftime.
The win put an end to the Bergamo-based side's tour in Clusone, Italy but they will still have to face Premier League side Bournemouth, Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin in subsequent pre-season games before kickstarting the new Serie A season on August 8 against Sassuolo.
Lookman had an impressive debut season in Serie A as he scored 13 goals in 31 games and registered 15 goals and eight assists in all competitions which was enough for him to win the Atalanta Player of the Year Award.
