Chelsea and Manchester City battling to re-sign 2021 Super Eagles invitee
Published: July 23, 2023
Chelsea are aiming to re-sign 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise but face competition for his services in the form of Premier League champions Manchester City.
The France underage international of Nigerian descent was a youth teamer at Chelsea for approximately seven years and also spent time at the Manchester City academy before joining Reading.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the two English giants have identified the talented Crystal Palace winger as a target this summer.
The Italian transfer market expert added that Olise has a release clause which is said to be around 35 million pounds which could make a move easier for his suitors.
However, the two sides are being cautious due to the injury he picked up while on international duty with France U21s in the 2023 European U21 Championship.
Manchester City are on the brink of losing the services of Algerian forward Riyad Mahrez and Olise would be a suitable replacement for the former African Player of the Year.
Likewise, Chelsea struggled in front of goal last season and are interested in the England-born forward to improve their chances in front of goal heading into the new season.
The 21-year-old scored 2 goals and registered eleven assists for Crystal Palace last season which earned him the club's Players' Player of the Year.
Olise joined the Eagle from Reading in 2021 and has notched 6 goals and 19 assists in 71 appearances across all competitions.
