Fabrizio Romano reveals Fulham will choose between Bassey and Southampton's Ghana star
Published: July 24, 2023
Italian transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Fulham's search for a left-footed central defender.
The Cottagers have two African players in mind for the left-sided centre-back role, Ajax Amsterdam's Super Eagles star Calvin Bassey and Southampton's Ghana international Mohammed Salisu.
Fulham have already reached a club-to-club agreement with Ajax on a 21 million euros fee for the transfer of the Nigerian.
The London club are now in talks with Bassey, who would undergo a medical this week if personal terms can be agreed.
Romano has claimed that talks with the Leicester City academy product are very advanced.
Meanwhile, Salisu, who would be playing in the Championship with Southampton in the upcoming season if he is not sold, has also been linked with Monaco and is reportedly in talks with the Ligue 1 club.
Bassey joined Ajax Amsterdam in the summer of 2022 from Scottish side Glasgow Rangers for a fee of twenty three million euros and has a contract with the four-time European champions until June 2027.
Brighton & Hove have also been linked with Bassey but Fulham appear to be in pole position to sign the 23-year-old.
