Southampton reject Burnley's N9b bid for Super Eagles-eligible winger
Published: July 28, 2023
Burnley have had their bid for Super Eagles-eligible winger Nathan Tella turned down by Southampton.
According to The Daily Mail UK, the newly promoted side's nine million pounds (approximately N9b in Nigerian currency) offer for the Arsenal youth product has been rejected by the Saints.
Burnley have then gone on to sign Danish winger Jacob Bruun Larsen on a season-long loan from Hoffenheim and it remains to be seen whether they would submit another bid for the right winger.
Tella was on loan with the Clarets last season and played a vital role in the club securing promotion back to the Premier League.
The 24-year-old posted 22 goal contributions and was nominated for the PFA Vertu Motor Fans Player of the Year award.
With Southampton's relegation to the Championship, the club would be unwilling to sell their players cheaply to make up for the loss incurred from getting relegated to the English second-tier division.
This might have informed the club's decision to turn down Burnley's offer for their forward.
Tella is currently with his Southampton teammate preparing for the new season which starts on the 4th of August with an away trip to Hillsborough Stadium to face Sheffield Wednesday.
