'I'm hoping to do plenty of that' - West Brom new boy Maja highlights one of his biggest strengths
Published: August 02, 2023
West Brom bolstered their frontline with the acquisition of one-cap Nigeria international Josh Maja on Tuesday, signing him as a free agent after his contract with Bordeaux expired.
Maja has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Baggies after previous stints in England with Sunderland, Fulham and Stoke City.
He starred for Bordeaux last season, registering seventeen goals in 41 all-competition appearances, but has decided to embark on a new chapter in his career after they missed out on promotion on the final day of the campaign.
Only Georges Mikautadze, Alexandre Mendy and Jean-Philippe Krasso scored more goals than the Super Eagles striker in the second tier of French football last season.
In an interview with West Brom's official website, Maja vowed to continue his goalscoring form in the forthcoming season and detailed the attributes he will bring to the side.
"I’d say one of my main attributes is scoring goals. I’d say that’s one of my biggest strengths," Maja remarked.
"I’m also a guy who can link the play and create opportunities for my team-mates.
"I’m someone that is hardworking, which is something I’ve had in me since I was really young. I’ve used that attribute all my life and I’d like to think it’s one of the main factors in why my career is where it is now.
"You’re going to get a lot of energy, a lot of goals, a lot of assists and an all-round performance from me."
The new West Brom number 9 added: "I’m not just a guy that brings goals, I want to be able to perform well every game, support my team-mates in the best ways possible and do what my coaches have asked of me.
"I want to make the fans proud.
"Scoring goals is always fun and winning games is always fun. I’m hoping to do plenty of that this year with Albion".
In 56 career appearances in the Football League for three different clubs, Maja has tallied seventeen goals.
