Montpellier coach confirms imminent signing of Adams as replacement for Chelsea, Spurs target
Published: August 06, 2023
Speaking after the 2-2 draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday, Montpellier coach Michel Der Zakarian confirmed the imminent signing of Nigerian striker Akor Adams from Lillestrom.
Montpellier are edging closer to signing a replacement for Elye Wahi, who has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, with Londoners Chelsea and Tottenham batting for the signature of the France U21 international.
Chelsea saw their opening offer of £24m for the services of Wahi rejected by Montpellier but are hoping to reach an agreement with the Ligue 1 club in the coming days.
Montpellier and Lillestrom have reached a club-to-club agreement for the transfer of Adams, with the Norwegian club agreeing to shred their contract with the former Flying Eagles star in exchange for four million euros.
The Montpellier boss underlined that Adams is in tiptop condition and in the frame to make his competitive debut on the opening day of the new Ligue 1 season on Sunday, August 13.
In quotes relayed by Ouest France, Michel Der Zakarian stated: "He will be in Montpellier on Monday evening and in the group to face Le Havre.
"It's a different profile from what we have here. He's tall, strong, powerful. He has already played 14 matches in Norway, so he is ready."
Adams has been in blistering form for Lillestrom over the last four months, scoring fifteen goals in fifteen matches to top the scoring charts in the Norwegian Eliteserien.
